Welcome Kia Ora
School Assembly Our first school assembly for this year will be held this Friday at 9:15am. PLEASE NOTE THE TIME CHANGE FOR THIS WEEK ONLY. Assembly is at an earlier time to accommodate the junior classes who are going to swimming. Rooms 1 and 6 are hosting the assembly and our families are welcome to join us in the school hall.
Board of Trustees Elections The triennial elections for Boards of Trustees are being held this year. Manuka School has 5 elected parent representatives on the Board. The Board has responsibility for the governance and management of the school. It is their job to ensure all school policies and procedures are in place and that they are being carried out. They are guided by the National Administration Guidelines [NAGs] which are the legal requirements placed on them by the government. This is a postal vote and the Board has set the final date for returning voting papers as May 7th. Further information about the election will be given later in the term. If you are interested in standing as a Board member and would like more information about what it requires, please talk to a current Board member or make an appointment to talk with me about the role. The first board meeting for the year is next Monday February 22nd at 7pm in the staffroom.
Parent Support Group Meeting Our first meeting for the year is Monday March 1st at 7pm in the staffroom. At the end of last year we lost many of our long term members whose children left to go to Intermediate. We desperately need new members to build our numbers and make the fundraising easier for everyone. The group has monthly meetings and they are lovely, fun people to work with. Please give serious thought to joining us and helping to improve the resources for our children. We look forward to seeing you on March 1st.
NZPF Parent Survey The New Zealand Principals’ Federation is conducting a nationwide survey of parents on the National Standards. Accompanying this newsletter is a short survey which we ask parents to complete and return to school by Friday February 26. Alternatively the survey can be completed online at the website listed at the top of the survey. Please do not complete both. The survey is anonymous with only the school and the region being identified for statistical purposes.
Congratulations to: Tyra Campbell and Preston Smith-Owen who represented North Harbour in an inter-provincial NZ Touch rugby tournament over the weekend. Tyra’s team came second and Preston’s team came 1st in their grade. North Harbour were overall provincial winners.
Netball Coach and Umpire We require a coach and umpire for netball this year. It requires a commitment on Wednesdays after school. If you are interested please contact Desiree at school.
Bake Sale On Wednesday February 24 at morning tea, Room 7 will be holding a bake sale to raise funds for the Senior Learning Communities trip to Rangitoto. There will be two stalls, one in the Senior shade area and one in the Junior area. Please support the SLC and send money in with your child for the bake sale.
Long Bay Trip Room 7 are heading to Rangitoto on Tuesday March 1. The trip has been planned to trial and evaluate a unit of work that Miss Thorpe helped write with other North Shore Teachers. The unit looks at how to use Long Bay Marine Reserve and a look at the life there. We still need two more helpers. If there is anyone who would like to join us for a fun day at the marine reserve please contact me. Miss Thorpe.
Trip Forms Please ensure that you have completed your 'Consent to Attend Off Site Excursions in 2010' form and returned it to the school office. It is especially important for the Senior Learning Community with the Rangitoto trip so close.
Rangitoto Trip It is vital that all senior children attend the Rangitoto trip. The day has been designed to ignite our Inquiry learning for the YEAR. If you have any problem with the trip (funding, worries) please see Emma Thorpe as soon as possible to look for solutions. I cannot stress enough how important this day will be for your child. Thank you for your support. Emma Thorpe - Deputy Principal
