Value / Attribute of the Month: Communication

Junior Inquiry: The Earth – present, past and future

Senior Inquiry: The impact of a natural disaster on a community

Welcome - Kia Ora

Discos/National Standard Forums

Tomorrow night we have our junior disco from 6pm to 7pm and our senior disco from 7:15pm to 8:30pm. Entry cost is $3 and there will be lollies, drinks, glow sticks, tattoos and other goodies for sale for $1 each. Parents please ensure you pick your children up on time after their disco.

In the staffroom we will have National Standards forums during the discos. From 6pm to 7pm we will be looking at the reading standards for Years 1-3 and during the senior disco we will look at the standards from Years 4-6. Parents may take their children to the disco and join us in the staffroom.

National Standards

We now have pamphlets explaining National Standards in the following languages;

Tagalog, Chinese, Samoan, Cook Islands Maori and Tongan.  You are most welcome to come into our school office if you wish to have a copy.

Manuka School Curriculum

Unfortunately the NZ curriculum we were all working so hard on has been overtaken by the introduction of National Standards. However we are re-focusing on the completion of our curriculum because it is the “road map” on which our teaching hinges. We have completed our literacy and numeracy curricula and we are currently working on our inquiry curriculum which includes health, social sciences, science and the arts. By the end of this year we will have this finished which will almost complete our Manuka Curriculum.

Trivial Pursuit Night   Friday September 10th    7pm

This is being held at the Glenfield Rovers’ Soccer Club. Tickets are available from the school office for $15 each. Invite some friends to make up a table of 8 for a fun night out. If you don’t have 8 people we will team you up with another group. We would like more items to auction on the night. If you can help us out please contact Marilyn at the school.

Chocolate Sales and Prizes

Chocolate sales made $3500 for the PSG. Thank you so much to the parents and extended family members who helped with the sales for this fundraiser.

The mountain bike was won by Troy-Jacob Kahaki [Room 15] and the MP3 player was won by Ryan Jenkinson [Room 5]. The prizes were drawn at assembly last Friday and we congratulate the 2 winners.

 Amenities fees

We thank those families who have paid all or part of their donation for 2010.

We have sent out reminder notices to those families who have still to pay for this year. Please send payment with your child in a named sealed envelope or if you prefer you can direct credit your donation to our bank account: Manuka School Board of Trustees, ASB Bank, Glenfield – 123072 0365870 000 Please use your child’s name as a reference on the payment.

Tax receipts will be sent home for donations paid.

Our next attribute is Participating & Contributing.

This is about being ready, willing and able to learn alone or with other people.

This is about our students knowing how to manage themselves in a group situation.

It is about respecting and recognising other points of view.

It is about working within and contributing to a community; our classroom, our school, our local community and our global community.

We will be focusing on this attribute for the last of the 4 weeks left of this term.
