Te Ao Māori At Mānuka School
Te Ao Māori (The Māori World) includes three main components: Te Reo Māori (the language), Tikanga Māori (the protocols and customs) and Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi). In our learning at Mānuka School we aim to integrate Te Ao Maōri into all of our learning experiences.
Wai Ako Kaiako
Wai Ako Kaiako is a programme that supports our across school learning of Te Reo Māori and New Zealand Sign Language. It is based around the idea of Tuakana Teina- older children teaching younger children. This programme allows senior students to become the Te Reo teachers in the Junior Classes. These seniors attend weekly training sessions where they learn the Te Reo and Sign Language vocabulary and waiata (songs) that they will be teaching in the juniors. Once a week they go into the junior classes and share their knowledge.
